Hogwarts to Grand Canyon
4 December 2014
Here’s a few of my travel photos from a trip last year to USA. I did it solo and I drove from the Grand Canyon to Los Angeles, a really liberating trip and definitely the way to explore America…
“A journey is like marriage. The certain way to be wrong is to think you control it.” – John Steinbeck
What I learned on this part of my trip (New York was my starting point), is to let go and go with the flow. I planned my trip meticulously, and yet due to flash floods, I had to make alternative plans last minute, detours etc. But on this detours I experienced some of the most unique experiences, one of these was driving in the middle of the desert, with not a soul in sight and seeing millions of sneakers hanging on a fence. Apparently it started off with one person throwing their sneakers into a tree, and the tradition was started. The tree recently burned down, but people kept up the tradition with the fence that surrounded the tree. The other unique experience was arriving late (due to a 150km detour) one night in a town called Twenty Nine Palms, California, just to be in time for a proper drive-in movie in the middle of the Mojave Desert – so surreal!! Twenty Nine Palms also has to be the small town (26 000 population) with the most tattoo parlors per capita… I counted six in a stretch of about 3km. Apparently there’s 10 in total.
